SRISTI Summer School 2013 taking off

The summer school through techpedia.in triggered by GIAN through SRISTI and with the help of NIF and ILO on fabricating devices for eliminating child labour, enhancing the income of  parents, and increasing safety in their work entered its third day.

On Tuesday, many of the participants  carried bricks, (one boy carried 168 bricks), washed tea cups at tea dhaba, met cobblers, worked with rag pickers and tried to experience the problems and pain these workers face. Today, they brainstormed and generated ideas to improve existing devices or develop new ones so that children are not deployed . It was realised that when productivity and incomes increase substantially, the child labour gets eliminated. If the higher education system starts letting students experience the pain of the neglected sections of society, samavedana (empathy) is bound to occur and trigger srijansheelta (creativity) in the process leading to empathetic innovations.

All those who wish to participate in this virtually, are welcome to contribute and comment on the reports and ideas that are published here. If somebody would like to upload her/his own ideas on innovative technologies for the elimination of child labour, write to fablabmail@gmail.com or nochildlabour@sristi.org so we can grant authorship.

Thursday, Prof Ranjan, senior professor with design chair at CEPT University, will address the participants and give inputs on design thinking. We have to ensure that not even one child is denied childhood, and gets access to education.
